Pole Diameter - How to Determine
If you are at the pole
Measure the circumference
Put a tape measure around the pole as if you were measuring your waist for pants size. Divide the result by 3.14. Example: The circumference is about 18 7/8". 18.875/3.14=6.01. So, the pole diameter is 6". You can convert the fraction to decimal by division. 7 divided by 8 is .875. If you just want to give us the circumference, we can figure it out. use the "Other" option at the bottom
If you can reach the top of the pole
Measure straight across the top of the pole, and that is the diameter as long as the pole isn't tapered (smaller at the top and bigger at the bottom).
Eyball it
You can try to eyeball it with a tape measure, but it's sometimes hard to tell whether it's 4" or 4 1/2" that way.
